How Did It Start?
Our story begins with these two frames.
In one — I am in my mother’s arms, a baby who can barely fit in her lap; behind us is the shop of our factory, full of silk fabrics.
For us, textile is more than just an industry. It is a memory, a way of life that has been passed down from generation to generation in these lands.
Sorita is the modern equivalent of this memory.
Our family profession started in 1949 on my grandfather's local weaving loom;
He grew up at Mert İpek, founded by my mother and father. For me, our factory was like a third sibling in my childhood memories. The fruit trees in the garden, the puppies, the afternoon naps I took under the willow tree… The smell of the oil from the looms, the olive oil soap graters in the dyehouse, the craftsmanship of the women from Birgi and the silkworm eggs my grandmother kept in her bosom…
Today, that pure childhood joy is embodied in Sorita . Our job is not just to produce clothes. We are building a world. We want to connect, share our story, and make women's work visible.
Our dream is a new world of sisterhood where labor and emotion are shared.
While I, Tuğba — as designer and co-founder — carry the spirit of Sorita,
Joy — our model, production partner, and co-founder — is the embodiment of this spirit.
We work together on every piece. The sisterhood of our children reminds us of the sisterhood of all girls; we believe that the future will be illuminated with women's solidarity.
Sorita combines the craftsmanship of the past with the elegance of today, and we want to be more than a brand:
A narrative, a memory, a say.
